A local city man is today contemplating a big issue ahead of the cold season.

With winter officially just around the corner, Ethan Devi is trying to figure out to do with his wardrobe for the next few months.

Making the leap into a puffer jacket guy a couple of years ago, Devi says he’s made peace with the prejudices that come with that item of clothing.

However, living in the mild Queensland climate, Devi says there can be more issues with the puffer than people thinking he’s one of those city finance guys.

“Mate, unless it’s proper cold, I over heat,” he said.

“And there’s few things worse than feeling sweaty in a puffer jacket,” he sighed.

Devi said that’s where a new potential item of clothing comes in.

The gilet.

Common in places like London and New York, the gilet, (pronounced zhee lay for those uncouth amongst us) is a sleeveless down jacket – aka a puffer vest.

While part and parcel of more classist societies like the aforementioned big cities, the gilet can still be somewhat of a controversial item of clothing here in our cultural backwater.

As Devi, explained, while a very comfortable garment, and perfectly suited to our winter climate, it comes with a big con.

“Yeah, I look like a bit of a fuckwit,” he sighed.

“So I just have to weigh up whether I’m happy to look like that for the next few months, or whether I want to cop a pull over or the full puffer jacket.”

“I don’t know, I think I’m getting to the age where I don’t really care anymore. So I might just start rocking the gilet more and cop the consequences that come with it.”

More to come.
