The nation’s Opposition Leader has today piped up with another interesting take on a topical cultural moment.

Peter Dutton has taken to the media to voice his concerns around American rapper Macklemore spreading ‘words of hate and division.’

Dutton says that if the Seattle artist wants to perform yet another political song, he needs to show some balance and respect.

Dutton’s comments come after Macklemore performed his new song Hind’s Hall for the first time ever in Wellington last night.

The pro-Palestine song touches on the conflict in Middle East and the subsequent clashes between university protestors and police in America.

The title is a reference to Hamilton Hall at Columbia University, which has been occupied by university students since last week.

The hall has been renamed by students after Hind Rajab, a 6-year-old killed in Gaza.

On an international tour, Macklemore has now decided to play the new song, which has understandably stoked controversy in the media.

Macklemore has made headlines in the past for the incredibly catchy, popular and genre defining song Thrift Shop, as well as performing the marriage equality themed hit Same Love before the 2017 NRL Grand Final.

Set to the backdrop of the Same Sex Marriage plebiscite, Peter Dutton famously demanded that NRL allow an artist to perform an anti-same-sex marriage song on the same evening.

The peculiar request which would have been a logistical nightmare as well as being extremely weird, has now been followed up by requests to allow pro-Israel artists to perform a pro-Israel song during Macklemore’s sets.

The move comes as Peter Dutton looks desperately to find himself on the wrong side of history once again, with everyone scratching their heads about how the feat would work.

Dutton has yet to provide any clarity around who would be performing, and how they would drop into Macklemore’s set to perform their one of song.

Dutton’s team has promised to provide clarity on this, and suggested he could get Brisbane band Sheppard to do him a solid.

More to come.
