A student at Green Road State School in Betoota Heights has spoken to The Advocate today about how he only seems to see news from the town’s elite private school and not one about how the state government is failing public education.

Lindsay Stokke, a Year 10 student, said the facilities at Green Road have been neglected to the point where they aren’t allowed to use them anymore.

Despite large class sizes, a supreme lack of teaching supplies, rampant behavioural problems and an ever growing catchment area, Lindsay says the only news about high schools in Betoota is always something about the dreadful behaviour of students from a local elite private school.

“It’s always something about like the rich cunts at Whooton doing something at a party like stealing or damaging property or fucking who knows what else,” he said.

The Whooton School is one of the Diamantina’s most exclusive and expensive schools. In recent years, the school has featured heavily in competitor newspapers in town such as The Betoota Morning Herald and the Betootaday Paper. Deep dives on the internal politics of the school council, dispatches from the Saturday detention list and who’s son is suspected of being a homosexual are often featured in the pages of those lesser mastheads.

“I’m honestly glad that journalists in this town are so obsessed with what private school kids get up to when they’re at school and out of it. You know, the crumbling facilities here at Green Road, nobody cares about that. Nobody cares that the teachers here are spending their own money on teaching supplies because the state government os saving all their money for the Olympic Games. Which will be full of cunty private school kids because only they’ve got the resources to actually take part in pole vault or some other shit,”

“Who cares, though? Certainly not the media.”
