A city-dwelling couple, sick of being locked out of the property market in the big smoke, made a stunning discovery today.

There is a place they haven’t been looking to buy a home: Regional Australia.

Cheap property dots the hills and valleys, with abundant services and high-quality infrastructure. Professional jobs are everywhere.

“Why didn’t anyone tell us about this place?” said Clinton Doherty, an associate at a mid-tier domestic law firm in Brisbane.

“There’s reasonably priced real estate out there, airports, bus stops, hospitals, and schools. They even have post offices, banks, credit unions. They have the lot. I can’t believe I’m only just learning about this place now!”

“Honestly, I’ve only been looking for a place to buy in Ascot and other northside working-class suburbs like Hendra and Hamilton. Even the proper ghettos of Cannon Hill and Indooroopilly were out of reach for us. In regional Australia, our dollar can go a lot further.”

Clinton’s domestic life partner, Pepsi St Clair, an Inner-City Cross River Ferry skipper, was equally as shocked.

Ms St Clair told The Advocate that she’d move to Regional Australia if it meant housing and job security were better than the city.

“There are houses in Betoota Heights going for $150,000. That’s great! It’s only 12 hours due west of Mooloolaba, and they have an airport. I’ve checked, and the flights are only $1449 return to Brisbane. We’d be saving so much money; that price would be quite cheap. There’s also a train service to Brisbane, which only takes 72 hours. There’s a metro line service in Betoota. Underground city shuttle. A population of over 80,000!”

“A modern city with modern jobs. It’s like some sort of utopia!”

More to come.
