The flow-on effect from hiring Scott Cam has already been felt around the nation it can be confirmed.

While the $145,000 already dolled out to The Block host for a couple of videos and social media posts hasn’t pulled in a stack of young men and women wanting to be tradies, it has caused some unusual recruitment.

One local high school student spoke to The Advocate at a career fair this morning and explained that Scotty Cam has inspired him – to join NIDA.

“Seriously, I know my brother and a lot of his mates are fucking cleaning up way more than almost anyone I know who spent years at university to work far longer hours than a tradie in a shit office job, but I’m not interested in that,” explained young Will Harrison.

“I’m keen to apply for NIDA start and acting career, bloke my way through the TV industry and land myself a 345k contracting gig with the government to do fuck all,”

“Sorry, am I allowed to swear?”

“Oh, okay cool, um yeah, so it becoming a chippy could be something to fall back on, but for now I’m aiming for NIDA.”

The Advocate reached out to Scott Cam for comment but he ultimately told us it’s probably best for him to say anything right now.

“I’m in my hammock boys, I can’t really talk right now,” he said.

“But ah yeah, pity you and the government aren’t very good friends. If you become mates with ScoMo, you might get a ticket on his gravy train. It’s pretty fucken sweet boys,”

“Probably shouldn’t say anything on the actual role I have, but. But, ah, hopefully, you boys get to hang a hammock in your garden soon. Oi, move in near me in Sydney, we can get pissed all the time together. It’ll be fucken mad.”

More to come.
