As the petrol price skyrockets around the country and the world, Betoota Plains man Phil Phoden reckons he has found a way to save himself a little bit of money.

The Barefoot Investor disciple from our town’s fringe suburb where the urban meets the paddock said he’s got an easy hack to save on his fuel bill.

“Basically, what I do is I go down and get a few bottles of vodka with my Betoota Bitter, and just use them to top up the tank when I’m at the bowser,” said Phoden.

“These petroleum companies are pretty much doing that behind closed doors anyway, so what’s a few extra litres of ethanol through the Mazda 3,” he explained.

Phoden says he decided to give the life hack a whirl after the price of fuel went to a record high in the Channel Country this week.

“The car doesn’t seem to not mind it, to be honest with you”

“And I still seem to be getting roughly the same mileage out of a tank”

“Might even have a little bitta Grey Goose left over for a Saturday night too, so it’s a win win really”

With petrol prices continuing to be controlled by giant petroleum companies who know they can squeeze money out of billions of consumers worldwide, Phoden said he recommends the hack to anyone who wants to save a bit of coin.

“Just try out whatever alcohol your car likes,” he said.

“It’s a bit of trial and error, but it could save the hip pocket in the long term!”
