In some exciting news for the Betoota Railway Hotel, the iconic watering hole has been nominated for an international award today.

The much loved Old City district pub is in line for the highly revered honour after overseas selectors were wowed by their local advertising.

Sporting a traditional facade like many good hotels around the country, the Railway has been nominated for a Cannes Lion because of it’s clever and creative beer advertising font.

The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is a global event for those working in creative communications, advertising, and related fields. It is considered the largest gathering of the advertising and creative communications industry.

The font used, which the publican has no idea what it is actually called, is nigh on identical to the style used to promote ‘ice cold beer’ and ‘cold flavoured milk’ across the country.

Publican Joe Casamento, who has held the license for nearly 20 years spoke to The Advocate today about the nomination.

“It’s a great honour obviously. I mean’ I’d never heard of the fucking things before today to be honest with you, but it’s always great to win an award,” Casamento said.

“I don’t know if I’ll get time to head over to France to celebrate with all the other marketing and advertising losers, but we will see how we go.”

Casamento explained that he has already been inundated with emails about his lack of a LinkedIn profile and job offers at boutique inner city agencies.

“I don’t quite get the fuss. I mean it’s just some nice writing about cold beer. I don’t know if I have reinvented the wheel. But then again by creating nothing of tangible worth or contributing anything to society, maybe I am deserving in the marketing and PR world?”
