For Sharon Dixon, life as a practicing water-colour-artist-and-sculptor in Betoota was a cruel, harsh world.

Ontop of her career being held ransom by an entire industry unwilling to promote any artists that aren’t  exploring identity politics in their paintings, she also isn’t very talented.

”I mean, art is subjective” she says.

”I don’t use Instagram anymore because I don’t know how to get more followers”

“I need to get out of this town to give my watercolour landscapes a shot”

Thats why Sharon is moving to Tasmania, where she will be joining hundreds of other kind of shitty Mainland artists who are trying their luck in a much smaller pond, while also subconsciously thinking that living in Hobart will increase their chances of being exhibited during Dark Mofo.

”It’s just, like, a way better vibe” she says.

”like Betoota’s art scene is sooo out of touch” she said.

”plus Hobart is just like Sydney.

“Well it’s what Sydney used to be, like How Brisbane is now what Betoota used to be. Anyway, it was either Hobart or Newcastle, or Adelaide”

“There’s just like a way better scene in biggish small towns”

”Except for Perth. I don’t know if living in Perth would help me as an artist”

The Betoota Advocate will be visiting Hobart in late November with our national live stage tour! Get tickets here: www.betootadvocate.com/roadshow
