A government-employed town planner has received a rather stern slap on the wrist today after staying a full one-hour later than he is contractually obligated to.

Bill Miller was called into his manager’s office at 9:01 this morning to receive his punishment and be urged not to do it again.

“Do you know why I’ve brought you in here, mate?” started the manager.

It’s believed that Bill didn’t know what the impromptu meeting was about, initially thinking he’d finally been caught out for taking two hours for lunch instead of one.

“Uh, yeah I think I’ve got some idea” Bill replied hesitantly.

“Mate, people have told me that you stayed in the office for an extra hour last night” said his manager.

“I just can’t have that”

“I’m going to need you to take 5 RDO’s within the next month”

“I thought you of all people would know better.” Ended his manager.

Bill, who’s an ex-lawyer, thought surely his manager was taking the piss. But the deadpan expression staring back at him said otherwise.

“Uh, yeah, I’m really sorry about that. I just had some work that needed to be done urgently, so I thought -“ Bill was cut off.

“Bill, you know in this line of work nothing is urgent. It can always wait. Now get back to work, I’ve got to drive around Betoota for 3 hours looking like I’m doing something.”

More to come.
