The Internet is Humanity’s greatest ever achievement, it is widely understood. And deep within this magnificent repository of human knowledge is perhaps the greatest website ever created. The one called ‘Gumtree’. The much loved classified advertisement and community website where anyone can purchase all sorts of goods and services.

Betoota Grove resident Frederick Bose (48) had the pleasure of using trusted Gumtree this morning to find an operator who could ply their expert craft to create a stunning addition to his garden area by constructing a small artist’s studio.

Bose texted the tradie he liked on Gumtree, who goes by the name of Vaughen Mullens and has been a member of Gumtree for less than a week, to ask if he would do the job.

To Bose’s surprise, Mullens was quick to respond and was even upfront about pricing straight away. Texting that, “I’ll do it for half price but I’ll need cash deposit upfront.”

While it seemed abrupt for Mullens to be talking about prices before Bose had explained what the job is, to get it for half price would indeed be a bargain. And it’s bargains like these that Bose knew were only possible to find on trusted websites like Gumtree.

Bose accepted Mullens half price deal, and asked him to send a contract to sign. But Mullens explained that his word was as good as any contract and wanted to get started immediately.

“In a hurry too, mate, so instead of cash handover on site just send through deposit via e-transfer asap and I’ll get started today.” Bose began receiving numerous texts like these from Mullens ever few minutes. It was obvious that the Gumtree tradie was a man of action, something that Bose respected.

“M8, need that $$$ now or job’s off.” Everything was happening so fast, Bose almost missed the opportunity to have his garden studio erected professionally and quickly.

Thankfully, he was able to transfer the $8,500 deposit to Mullens via OSKO payment, meaning Mullens would see it land in his account immediately.

Bose spent the rest of the day waiting for his Gumtree tradie to show up. Sadly, it would seem that Mullens lost phone reception en route to the job, as he stopped returning Bose’s texts or calls.

More to come.
