The new school chaplain at Betoota Ponds Central School has admitted that he feels in over his head in his new role.

Father John Cershaw told The Advocate that a troubled Year 10 student told him the other day that he thinks he might be gay, which in turn is creating a lot of internal turmoil for the young man.

“All I could say was, ‘Nah, I don’t think you are,’ and that’s pretty much it,” said Father Cershaw.

“What else was I supposed to say? Go down to Rue Trou de Gloire and see if you like what you see? Go for a boogie at the Sex Piston and see if you like the company? I can’t say any other that. I’m in over my head here,”

“The government said I’d be dealing with things like angry kids who throw rocks at buses and maybe a few cases of underage drinking. Not homosexuality, domestic violence, sexual violence, abortion and bulling.”

The Advocate reached out to the Queensland Department of Education for comment but have yet to receive a reply.
