Though he made a number of rather off-colour remarks on a wide range of subjects, a local bachelor as received the thumbs up from a happy-go-lucky young lady this week after she spied a heavy-used and greasy Ottolenghi cookbook on the man’s kitchen benchtop.

After explaining that he thinks all prisoners who show no signs of remorse or rehabilitation should be executed by the state and their organs given to people in the community who’d put them to better use, Dylan Carmichael of the French Quarter just shrugged when Melanie Goldman said she disagreed as he invited her up to his flat for a cup of tea.

The 33-year-olds had been out to dinner after meeting on a dating app, something they both actively plan on hiding from their family and friends should their encounter turn into something more substantial.

Melanie spoke briefly but candidly to The Advocate this afternoon about the weekend rendezvous, telling our reporter that she was initially on the fence regarding Dylan but he brought it home strong once she saw the state of his apartment.

“Judging by what he spent the evening telling me, I thought I was going to walk into a room covered in plastic sheeting like in Goodfellas or something,” she said.

“Telling me things like how he thinks the government should sell the organs of prisoners and whatnot. That was pretty odd but I’m very single at 33 so I’m willing to hear just about anybody out at this stage,”

“Anyway, when we went up to his flat, I saw this Ottolenghi cookbook on the counter that had obviously been used quite a lot. If it was one of Jamie Oliver’s 15 or 30 minute meal cookbooks, I would’ve been terrified. Only psychopaths and serial killers do that. That lisping sociopath’s cookbooks are full of lies. It was a big green flag for me, that Ottolenghi cookbook. He also had a little bin in his bathroom, which was also great. I’m looking forward to seeing him again.”

Our reporter reached out to Dylan for comment but he’s currently in the South Betoota Watchhouse after the local police caught him poisoning the pigeons in Machattie Park again.

More to come.
