Brisbane is currently battening down the hatches, as every single NRL players in the country descends upon the Brown Snake for one of the wildest football exhibitions in the country.

As has been tradition for several years now, the NRL will descend upon Suncorp Stadium for all eight matches of ‘Magic Round’.

At the halfway mark of the NRL season, the competition ladder is begin to come together over this pivotal weekend. On top of that, players will be showing off for Origin selection throughout 640 minutes of unbridled rugby league on the hallowed turf of Suncorp Stadium.

While business owners are sandbagging their shopfronts to avoid any structural damage caused by neckless footy stars bouncing through the Valley full of rum, the publicans of Caxton street are also being cautious.

But it’s not the footballers that necessarily cause shit outside the stadiums, it’s the tens of thousands of interstate fans that have flown to the River City to wear funny outfits and drink full strength piss for three days straight.

One timid Caxton street bartender says most employees at pubs surrounding the Colosseum are currently taking a moment to themselves

“It’s the calm before the storm” says, Billy (54)

“Magic Round started as an exhibition fixture with lots of families coming in and out of the stadium over the weekend.

“Now it’s a mixture of the Kentucky Derby and Hong Kong 7s”

Billy pauses as a plane flies overhead.

“That’s another one. Full to the brim of footy fans”

“Bucks parties, divorcee parties, There’ll be a couple 18ths, 21sts, 30ths”

“You can already hear them echoing through the city”

“Listen”

Billy nervously looks down at a plastic glass of water in front of him, rippling with each distant thud.

He whispers.

“Whenever I see rings in a glass of water my first thought is: must be the Newy boys
