Local Enoggera man, Terry Kilroy (48) says that while he doesn’t mind watching Australia’s top-level domestic men’s rugby league club competition from time to time, he’s actually more emotionally invested in Queensland’s Intrust Super Cup.

“Ya know, The Redcliffe Dolphins actually have more members than the Broncs” says Terry.

“I mean, I don’t mind watchin’ NRL, but it’s always been more about the QCup in Brisbane”

These comments seem to conflict with the fact that he has taken his family to dinner at the Red Hill Leagues club for dinner once a week for the last two decades.

And the fact that he has been a life member of the Brisbane Broncos since the 1992 Premiership.

“Yeah, I flew down to Sydney for the GF in 2015, but that was only because I got free tickets through work”

“It’s, like, the NRL is good and everything, but real rugby league fans in the River City don’t follow it as closely as they follow the state comp” he insists

Even though the NRL is the only rugby league football on television, Terry says he’s far more interested in the the intra-state competition, which was cancelled for the first time in its history this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with no premiers being crowned.

Terry insists he should not be generalised as one of the tens of thousands of fair-weather Broncos fans who are burning their jerseys after not being treated to the above average performances over the last thirty years.

He says he’s got a lot of time for all Queensland clubs, and denies blasting the Titans on Facebook for the last five years, demanding they be removed from the competition and delegated to Ipswich or somewhere that actually appreciates league.

“Nah, it’s got nothing to do with the fact we… I mean they, have only won three matches this year”

“It’s got nothing to do with the entire franchise is being torn apart with mismanagement and rumours of severe off-field misconduct by both players and club staff”

“It’s got nothing to do with the fact that they don’t even have a coach for the next two weeks”

“It’s just that… I reckon the Devils play a better brand of football”

MORE TO COME.
