A public holiday professional has spoken to The Advocate from the pools of a Bali villa this morning, to explain how she’s managed to swing a three week holiday over Easter.
Parked up at in Seminyak, local media relations advisor for the Betoota council Samantha Saunders, has just ordered her first Mojito for the morning, whilst the rest of her colleagues trudge into their office to make coffee from an Aldi pod machine.
An expert in the art of booking holidays early, Samantha closed down her laptop over a week ago, and won’t be required to take a peek at another email until the Monday after ANZAC Day.
Asked how she’s managed such a gorgeous jaunt, Samantha offered up her top tips to Advocate readers, who get stuck working consecutive four day weeks because they’re idiots who don’t bother researching well in advance into the yearly calendar.
“Tip one; you’ve got to book early” said Samantha, as she squirted a thick glug of tanning oil into her hands and began to lather up for the day.
“Lodge it in October, block the hell out of your calendar and don’t say a word until some Einstein from management twigs, which usually doesn’t happen until mid-march when work actually starts to ramp up.”
“Tip two; don’t share your plans with your colleagues, or they’ll get in on it too and stuff up your handover.”
“Oh and tip three, it helps when you’re employed in the public service, some of these days aren’t even annual leave, I just worked late for an hour one day in December and they give me a whole day back for free!”
