NRL powerhouse the Wests Tigers have made a bold leap for media attention this week, announcing plans to sign NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal.

A four-time NBA champion and notoriously funny TV personality, it’s understood head honchos at Concord have decided to leak plans to bring ‘DJ Diesel’ to lead the Tigers dwindling pack in 2023.

The move comes off the back of Shaquille O’Neal’s current tour of Australia, which has whipped a feeding frenzy amongst sports fans and big brands keen to get in on the action.

Following a busy week of media engagements, including appearances with Matty Johns and nightclub sets spinning the decks as ‘DJ Diesel’, Tigers officials have reportedly managed to fit in time to attempt to sign the basketball great who once brought championship glory to both the Lakers and Miami Heat.

“At 7-foot and 150kgs, he’s exactly the type of fire power we’re looking for at the Tigers,” said one unnamed club official, who spoke anonymously to our reporter despite begging for the story to go national.

“Plus with his huge profile, Shaq can help us continue to build Wests Tigers into an international franchise.”

“Some would say we’re trying to run before we can walk, but Shaq could definitely move us from wooden spooners to ninth on the ladder in 2023!”

The moves comes after further media agitations were made this week, when the Tigers were connected to an audacious bid to lure the NRL’s hottest property, Cameron Munster, on a $7 million deal.

A fanciful rumor which appeared to have no substance yet still be leaked to the hungry NRL media, it appears the Tigers are once again connected to a daring headline grab.

When asked whether the club had managed to give Shaq a tour of the new Tigers Centre of Excellence, or stop by the crumbling stadium, officials said Shaq’s schedule made it difficult to collaborate a meet-up.

“Ah no, we couldn’t get Shaq there, sadly he didn’t have much time for us…”

More to come.
