Brisbane man Devon Donnelley was listening intently to the two gentlemen piloting the Traghetto across the Grand Canal in Venice earlier this week when they remarked that the larger gondola they were travelling on is just meant to get you from one side of the river to the other.

The 29-year-old nodded and thought that sounded familiar.

“Oi,” Mr Donnelley said to the middle-aged Italian man holding the oar.

“We have these things back home. They’re called KittyCats. How crazy is that?”

The traghetto captain nodded.

“Yeah so say you’ve just been over to your auntie’s place for lunch in Bulimba and you’ve done yourself on the white wine and prawns and don’t want to pay out the a-noos [sic] for a taxi, you can just trundle on down to the KittyCat and it takes you over to Tenerife, which is near enough to the city, where is where you can really do a number on yourself like,” Mr Donnelley added.

“Similar to here, I guess. It just takes you over the river. But tell you what, this isn’t a river. In Australia, we’d call this so-called Grand Canal a bloody creek. Especially in Queensland,”

Again, the traghetto captain nodded.

“Mate, do you reckon you could get this cunt over a coastal bar?”

More to come.
