One of the nation’s living treasures has received the Order Of Australia for services to Dutch bank ING this month.

Scott Pape, who’s best known by his stage name The Barefoot Investor, has helped millions of Australians archive some semblance of financial security over the past two decades.

The Sunraysia’s Golden Son has done that by giving people the framework to better manage their income and expenses. One key tool in that framework was to utilise the everyday banking products from ING.

The Advocate’s lawyers emphatically told our reporter to mention that at no point has Mr Pape received any money or gifts from the Dutch conglomerate for his endorsement of their business.

Nevertheless, the Sunraysia’s golden son said he was happy and proud to receive the Order of Australia and hopes his work has helped people realise their financial goals.

“Yep, double thumbs up from this old stonefruit city cowboy,” he said.

“My splurge card might come out tonight, who knows? Might push the boat out. Within reason. I’m not going to go mad,”

“Actually, you know what? Fuck it. I’m going to buy a coffee on the way to work and have a steak for lunch. I might even wash it down with a pint. Refresh my portfolio of Vanguard ETFs a few times to see how many cents it’s gone up or down in the past hour,”

“Then I might have another pint and put a lazy grand on some Argentinian magnesium prospector. No shares over one cent. Don’t look Warren [Buffet]! No, seriously guys. Thanks for the chat, have a good one and thank you to whoever chooses these awards.”

The Advocate reached out to ING for comment but have yet to receive a reply.

More to come.
