Mariafe Artacho del Solar and Taliqua Clancy will hit the podium with a silver after a world class run through the 2020 Tokyo Olympics that sadly came to an end moments ago.

Our Australians just missed out on winning gold in the beach volleyball final to America’s April Ross and Alix Klineman this afternoon.

Despite the result, Mariafe and Taliqua are now household names right across Australia, after a nail biting win over world number 1 Canada in the quarter-final.

The Americans brought a serving game that was just too hard to beat on the day, despite dominating play at the net by our girls.

However, it’s not lost on those watching in Queensland that today’s match would not have played out the way it did if they were playing by ‘Kingaroy Rules’.

Known as ‘The Peanut Capital’ – the South Burnett town of Kingaroy is known for producing some of the toughest athletes in Australia – namely, Australia’s new beach volleyball silver medalist, Taliqua Clancy.

There are now growing calls for an immediate rematch between the Americans and our girls on the Kingaroy Courts, where it is believed the yanks wouldn’t last a minute.

Congratulations to all medalists, and we’ll see you in Brisbane!
