In a move that show just how much shit the Australian voters are willing to put up, the Liberal Party has extended its deadline for candidates to nominate in the blue-ribbon Sydney seat of Warringah for next year’s federal election.

The decision was meant to have been made on December 3, but has been pushed to January 14, as the Libs scramble to find someone who can win back Tony Abbott’s old seat from that climate-change woman that they can’t control.

In a uniquely Australian turn of events, it seems the former NSW Premier, who has resigned from state politics due to an investigation into her alleged misconduct, is the best bet to painting Sydney’s North Shore blue again.

Gladys Berejiklian, who resigned in the middle of the pandemic recovery due to an Independent Commission Against Corruption (IICAC) investigation into her conduct, is reportedly considering a tilt at the Warringah seat.

Polling has shown Ms Berejiklian had the best chance of winning back the seat for the Liberals, which says a lot about the state of the current government: That someone who is currently being investigated for the misappropriation of hundreds of millions of tax-payer dollars is actually looking like the best talent they’ve got heading into the 2022 elections.

Independent MP Zali Steggall currently holds the seat, after ousting former prime minister Tony Abbott from what was once the safest Liberal stronghold in the country.

When questioned about whether the former premier was likely to run, Liberal Party federal vice-president Teena McQueen told 2GB that “in politics, anything is possible”.

Berejiklian has not commented on her plans, but also hasn’t ruled out a return to taking orders from the most mediocre pale, stale and male politicians that this country has ever paid $400k a year to do nothing but fleece the Australian public out of billions of their own dollars with car park rorts, sports grounds rorts, bushfire relief funding and other targeted grants aimed at securing re-election at the cost of the people who actually need them.

The former NSW Premier, who was given a Princess-Diana-style send off from her own constituents after her shock resignation earlier this year, appears to be the Morrison Government’s best bet to look like they are addressing their woeful track record of addressing misogyny and women’s safety – by shortballing a woman whose career was ruined by similarly incompetent middle aged white men, into Canberra – where she will be surrounded by an even worse standard of Liberal politician.

Just with no Federal ICAC looking at what they are up to.
