With the 2022 NRL Grand Final now in the rear view, rugby league fans around Australia were under the impression that they would have to wait until next Winter before they saw anymore football on their screens.
However, this is not actually the case!
For the next few months until Christmas, footy fans are about to embark on what is now known the ‘rugby league world cup’.
It’s just like the NRL, except it features countries that aren’t just New Zealand and Australia.
While the State Of Origin tournament between New South Wales and Queensland is often viewed as the highest level of rugby league on the planet, there is actually a representative level above that – technically.
It’s called ‘The Kangaroos’ – a national squad made up of the best from both Origin teams – but here’s the catch, they play alongside each other!
However, in recent years, the team has lost a lot of their talent from Western Sydney and South Brisbane to the Polynesian nations – who also have teams!
Coached by former Queensland Origin great Mal Meninga, the Kangaroos are expected to be a strong outfit in this bizarre ‘intra-national’ tournament – where they will play other strong rugby league nations like Jamaica and Lebanon.
