The Liberal Party is beginning the arduous journey today to win back seats lost to “teal independents” at the last election.

One of the first steps, according to Opposition leader Peter Dutton, is to oppose the Voice to Parliament, in its current stage, which has been put forward by the Albanese Government.

“At the last election – and indeed in the Aston by-election last weekend – we suffered a great defeat,” Dutton told reporters in Canberra this afternoon.

“We lost our heartland to teal independents. That’s where we lost the last election. In order for the Liberal/National coalition to return to power, we need to win back those inner-city and leftie bush seats that we lost at the last election,”

“This is the first step in winning back seats like Wentworth, uh, that one that Dr, uh, Kooyong, sorry. It’s the first step to winning back blue-ribbon seats in Brisbane that went to the Greens at the last election. Seats like Griffith, I think that’s what it’s called. We are hoping to win that seat at the next election by opposing the Voice.”

“Because, uh, it’s not like we’re opposing the Voice here at the Liberals. I need to make that clear. It’s just that we oppose the Voice how it is right now.”

Mr. Dutton then nodded and made intense eye contact with all four people in the press briefing room.

“You guys aren’t even listening, are you?”

More to come.
