In a lovely story from Betoota’s Old City District, a local Englishman has decided to treat everyone to a bout of laughter this morning.
Wrapping up a quick chat about some project, the Betoota via Bondi recruitment manager decided to tell his mates at work that he actually reckons there could be egg on the face in a few days’ time.
Stuart Anderson caused the giggles by claiming that he’s quietly confident an upset could be on the cards in Brisbane.
The comments come as the cricketing world prepares for the first ball of the first day of the first Ashes Test, a somewhat spiritual moment for sporting fans.
“Honestly I know Jimmy’s not playing this first test, there’s no Broady, and Jof won’t be here for the series, but I think we’ve got some really underrated guys coming through,” explained the local Pom.
“It does look like our pace attack will be as express as Australia Post’s shipping, but I’m hopping that this time around the ball will swing heaps in the blazing Australian sun.”
“They’ve changed the Kookaburra to try and make it more like the Duuuke (sic) we have back home, so maybe we can get some pay there.”
With a few sighs and rolled eyes now creeping across the group as they realise that Anderson actually thinks the English will do better than their last 10 tests out here, which have resulted in 9 losses and a draw.
“Look what India did to you guys at the Gabba last year? I thought you hadn’t not won there in 30 years or something,” he then said as the laughs quickly subsided.
“Let’s just see what happens,” finished the hopelessly optimistic Englishman before walking off to yap at someone else.
