A local mum has this week found herself having a bit of a crisis, torn between two very different aesthetics- going full feminine (a.k.a cutesy cottage core) or taking a walk down the wild side (goth mummy).

Chrissie Barker [29] says she’d felt the sudden urge to reclaim herself by altering her appearance, as she was mourning her identity as an individual with interests and desires that fall completely outside the realm of motherhood, and not just being known as ‘Jacob’s mum.’

Grappling with those confusing feelings and the a desire to wear something other a hoodie for a change, Chrissie figures it might be time to change things up a little – for the sake of her sanity.

“I do love that whimsical, floral look”, says Chrissie, “especially sundresses.”

“But then again, going for the whole tattooed up Morticia look is also very appealing to me.”

“Hmmm.”

“That is a lot to commit to though.”

Taking another browse through Etsy, Chrissie says she might experiment with some gateway hair dye, and see where that journey takes her.

More to cone.
