WEDDING TAX: Local florist Becky Maycroft has taken the term “wedding tax” to new heights after she reportedly slapped some extra zeros onto a bride-to-be’s quote upon learning she was also shopping for a white dress.

The incident, which occurred between local florist, Autumn’s Workshop and the prospective wife, Sarah Smith has left the small town of Betoota buzzing with disbelief and outrage. According to Betoota’s sources, it was when the unsuspecting customer, Sarah Smith, innocently mentioned she was wedding dress shopping after asking for a quote for some floral arrangements. That’s when Maycroft’s eyes lit up with dollar signs and she swiftly recalculated the quote, transforming it into a financial fuck you, one extra zero at a time.

Sarah Smith, having been mesmerised by Maycroft’s floral arrangement wizardry on social media, had hoped to replicate that magic for her big day. What she didn’t foresee, however, was the audacity of a florist attempting to covert their online clout into real-world currency.

Rumours had been circulating among Betoota’s local florist regarding Autumn Workshop’s lack of real-life experience. Many had cautioned Smith against getting caught in the TikTok frenzy, warning that behind the flashy posts might lie a business model with more show than substance.

“It’s like watching a magician perform a trick, but instead of pulling a rabbit out of a hat, she pulls out a ridiculously inflated bill” remarked competitive florist remarked. When questioned about his pricing strategy, Maycroft defended herself, explaining, “It’s just the wedding markup, a classic move in the business playbook. Say ‘wedding,’ add zeros. It’s Business 101.”

“If you don’t like the price, I suggest you get your florals elsewhere” she continued.

Initially taken back by the inflated quote, Sarah Smith decided to search for a less obnoxious florist who could easily fulfil her Orchid dreams on a Daisy budget.

This incident serves as a cautionary tale for customers everywhere: tread carefully when mentioning weddings while shopping, lest you find yourself ensnared in the web of the infamous “wedding tax.“.

More to come.
