Loud and proud Aussie bloke Bruce O’Sullivan (36) passionately declared today that immigrants aren’t making enough of an effort to assimilate into the country’s culture, despite his own glaring lack of basic knowledge about Australian currency.

Bruce, whose grandparents moved here from Birmingham after the war, made the controversial statement during a heated discussion at his local pub, where he had gathered with friends to watch a rugby match at the pub while complaining about the weather, much like his ancestors would do back in the motherland.

“Mate, these immigrants come over here and expect us to bend over backwards for ’em, when they don’t even learn about our history or culture” he exclaimed.

However, when pressed by one of his larrikin mates to name the individuals featured on Australian banknotes, Bruce’s confident demeanor quickly faltered.

After several awkward moments of silence and nervous laughter, he was finally able to identify at least one of the people on an Aussie banknote.

“Yeah look, that’s the Queen of England, everyone knows her!” Bruce said while pointing at his fiver.

Ironically, the only person in the entire pub who could identify anyone on the money was a new arrival kitchen worker who falsely assumed he should probably learn who’s on the money of his new country – thinking Australia would be like his home nation’s currency, and have people on the money that even 5 year old’s there could tell you about.

Witnesses also reportedly heard Bruce defending his preferred interest in American politics over boring Aussie politics, love of all things British comedy and not knowing what Australia day was actually celebrating.

More to come.
