If the Victorian Liberals thought that things couldn’t get worse, they were oh so very wrong.

Over the weekend, shadow attorney-general Tim Smith MP is alleged to have pinballed his car down the leafy streets of Hawthorn before returning a breath test reading of 0.131 at a nearby police station.

Mr Smith, an entitled little blue blood who epitomises the the detachment of the silver spoon-fed Liberal party from their base of small business owners and frugal immigrants, apologised for the “serious error of judgement”.

Victoria Police confirmed officers responded to reports a car had collided with another vehicle on Power Street in Hawthorn before crashing into a fence about 8:55pm.

Mr Smith said he believed he was under the legal limit to drive home after dinner with friends, but “this was not the case” – in a statement that implied he had been pulled over by an RBT, instead of being caught by the cops crashing his car because he is a stupid drunk idiot.

“I was breath-tested and returned a positive reading,” he said in a statement.

“I have been fined under the Road Safety Act and my licence has been suspended for 12 months,” he said in a statement.

No-one was injured in the incident, police said.

It comes as no surprise to the people of Melbourne that the same man who fought so hard against the health restrictions in the middle of a pandemic is also the type of person who puts other peoples lives at risk by driving his car while almost twice over the legal limit.

The Liberal MP for Kew said he tendered his resignation from shadow cabinet to the embattled Opposition Leader Matthew Guy on Saturday.

In response to the incident, Mr Guy said: “I remain exceedingly angry and disappointed with Tim Smith’s actions and have conveyed my thoughts to him in no uncertain terms.”

Mr Smith was elevated to the shadow attorney-general position in September after Mr Guy took over the leadership in a spill.

Prior to that, he was shadow planning minister.

His current title is now the disgraced drink driver and outgoing Member for Kew.
