After a quiet few months, the AFL’s most famous club is in the headlines again.

The Collingwood Football Club has been forced to send out an SOS this morning after serious allegations emerged about one of their star players.

Eddie McGuire has reportedly been begged to return to the club for a few weeks, after midfielder Jordan De Goey was allegedly involved in a couple of incidents in New York.

The 25-year-old has pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and forcible touching before being stood down by his football club indefinitely on Sunday.

The incident took place at the Dream Hotel at 2 am local time on Saturday where New York police allege he “grabbed buttocks and vagina outside clothing without authority to do so of a 35-year-old female”.

Immediately after the alleged groping, he and a mate were then also allegedly involved in a physical altercation with a male who was kicked and punched.

It’s believed the male was known to the woman in question.

The latest incident comes after De Goey lied about breaking his hand in a nightclub in 2016, got done for drink driving in 2018, and was charged in 2020 for an indecent assault alleged to have taken place in 2015.

That 2015 incident was investigated by the AFL integrity Unit and covered up in 2018, and charges were dropped by police last year with De Goey maintaining his innocence.

However, with a string of incidents seemingly involving a couple of common denominators, and the AFL and Collingwood doing its best to protect reputation over the best interests of a player who might need help, Eddie McGuire has been asked to reunite with Collingwood for old time’s sake.

“One last job, come on Eddie, please,” said a powerbroker for a club with a long history of covering incidents up.

“We need someone to get on the front foot and ensure that the media class down here in Melbourne just treat this as a cut and dry incident and let it blow over”

“And you are so good with standing up to the boys at the AFL”

“You are one of the only ones they listen too”

“Please Eddie”

It’s believed Eddie is considering the offer, but wants his old job back in 6 months’ time if he can pull this off.
