Mums have grown to expect a certain caliber of gifts for Mother’s Day; a hand made pasta necklace, a clay blob that’s meant to be their face and a bunch of woollies flowers and a box of chocolates that husbands have clearly picked up on the way home after forgetting to get anything decent.

But if mums thought the extra time at home would mean more considered gifts, one dad that represents every other dad is proving that is simply not the case.

With his kids being homeschooled by him, the responsibility of crafting a Mother’s Day gift has fallen on the incapable shoulders of Nathan Sejudo. Completely out of his depth, Sejudo is attempting to get his kids to make some new coffee cups for mum and wife, Jasmine.

“Come on kids, your mum really wanted some new coffee cups this year.”

“And daddy doesn’t want to risk buying the wrong ones” he said to his children who, judging by their current cups, might not know what a cup looks like.

“Yeah look, Jas would be expecting something decent this year but I flat out forgot about Mother’s Day – usually the girls in the office carry on about it but I’ve been working from home since March so what hope did I have?”

“If the kids make her stuff she can’t get mad, and if I’m the driving force behind those gifts then I’ll be off the hook”

With Mother’s Day here, it will be interesting to see just how content mums are with shonkier presents than previous years.

More to come.
