Online telecommunications app Skype has announced today that it is not leaving your taskbar without a bloody, gruesome fight.
Even after being replaced by much easier to use and far more reliable apps, Skype is hanging in there – only because it is so hard to get rid of.
Released in 2003, the telecommunications app wowed people by making it possible to have a face to face conversation with another person in a different location, just like the science fiction films promised us.
Since it’s inception, the app has taken on many changes, becoming a video chat service commonly used with the camera switched off and 20 tabs open as well as a low key way to have a bitch about someone at work.
Increased competition from other communications services you don’t want to use such as Google Hangouts and Slack has meant Skype has had to step up their efforts to stay relevant with one tactic being to stay on your taskbar until you die of old age.
“Try and delete us, I dare you,” stated Skype CEO Tony Bates.
“Yeah that’s what I thought.”
“We are well aware the Zoom and HouseParty are far more easy to use, especially during the age of social distancing during COVID-19”
“But we ain’t going nowhere!”
Despite the fact that many people haven’t used the app since Short Stack was a thing, Skype has announced that they will fight tooth and nail to stay on your taskbar, even if it makes you hate them forever.
While anyone with basic computer knowledge will be able to successfully delete the app off their computer, there is fear that older computer users who find video chats to be the type of magic reserved for the Wizard of Oz, will not be able to delete the app from their desktop computer next time they fire it up to play some Farmville.
