Nearly a month and half after the southern states were finally released from the gruelling 2021 lockdowns, it seems that the rest of Australia suppose it’s time to congratulate their tropical sister city for that big moment she had back in July.

At the height of this year’s outbreak, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk received endless criticism for jet-setting to Tokyo to put forward Brisbane’s bid to host the 35th Olympic Games.

After the gruelling deliberation process, where Brisbane faced off against three empty chairs, the rest of the Australia scowled at how Queenslanders could possibly be talking about hosting an athletics carnival in 11 years time while the vast majority of the country was locked down at home under some of the strictest public health orders in the world.

Eventually, the International Olympic Committee announced that the River City of Jacarandas would host the 35th Olympic Games in 2032 – sparking celebrations right across Queensland.

Obviously this fanfare was not matched by the rest of the country, who at the time were more focused on which government agency they had to call to see if they could get an exemption to make sure they hadn’t left the lights on in their workplaces.

The Betoota Advocate reported on this bitter Southern frustration at the time: “Cool. I Guess” Says The Rest Of Australia As Brisbane Wins The 2032 Olympics Bid

However, today, a good 6 weeks since the brutal 4-month lockdown ended, the cold states are now in a good enough space to finally give Brisbane a pat on the back.

“Hey, ummm.” says the rest of Australia, as the bashfully touch base with Brisbane.

“I know we didn’t say anything at the time… But good work, kid”

“That’s great news. You are going to nail this Olympics”

“And yeah. Sorry bout before. Was just caught up in a bit of personal stuff.”
