There is a lot in common between Nazi propagandist Joseph Goebbels and media tycoon Rupert Murdoch, according to one local student.

He joins our reporter in the quadrangle of South Betoota Polytechnic University.

After showing The Advocate around the Overell School of Journalism, which boasts this masthead’s editor as an alumnus.

Gavin Pooley regards himself as a new-age journalism student, one who prides himself in his loathing of Rupert Murdoch and the hate his newspapers spread.

“Hate and misinformation,” he says.

“Rupert Murdoch makes Joseph Goebbels look amateurish. Goebbels would’ve never thought to photoshop Peter Beattie into a clown and accompy that with the headline: ‘Send In The Clown,’ during a Queensland state election,”

“And I think if he had the chance, Rupert Murdoch would’ve been party to genocide. He probably already is. A social and thought genocide.”

When asked if he did Modern History last year for his high school leaving exams, Gavin indicated that he did not.

“It’s all propaganda.”

More to come.
