The National Party have this week revealed how they plan to fix on of the major bungles from their government’s time in office.

Speaking at a press conference in Darwin with a fancy new hat, Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce has promised 1.5 billion dollars in funding to build a completely new Port of Darwin.

This comes after the Country Liberal Party in the Northern Territory along with the Federal Government pushed to hand off the current Port Of Darwin to a giant Chinese company with strong connections to the nation’s rulling Communist Party Government in 2015.

The Federal Trade Minister at the time Andrew Robb then walked out of politics and landed a mammoth gig with that company less than 6 months later, hinting at why the state and federal governments may have ignored the adivce of the Australia Defence Force and a whole raft of industry experts.

However, with an election looming, and the rule of law something the government has to adhere to on thids one, rather than tear up the contract, the Nationals are proposing to just build a new port.

Of course the port will also have significant benefits for the resources industry, which may or may not donate a lot of money to our political parties – with one of the major purposes of the construction being to allow the export of gas.

However rather than promising the 1.6 billion to upgrading things like run down hospitals in regional electorates, Joyce and Co are going to commit to a new port just before an election.

“It is about what is actually in the budget. It has been legislated. We’re not playing games with the territory, we are actually doing this,” Joyce said, forgetting to mention the fact the bill to fund this lapsed when parliament dissolved on Monday.

“No games at all here. Buidling the infrastruture to make projects economically viable for people who donate money to our party is called Nation Building.”

“It’s defintely not a corporate handout.”
