In episode 3 of the their fourth and final season, HBO’s Succession may have just produced the finest on-screen hour since TV’s golden era of Sopranos and The Wire.
The series, which centres around the detached and nerve-wracking tribulations faced by a fictional ‘media family’ that echoes both the Murdochs and the Packers, has delivered audiences the most unexpected curveball – in an episode that will most probably sweep the floor for awards shows over the next 12 months.
With stand out performances from Australia’s Sarah Snook, and her co-stars Jeremy Strong and Keiran Culkin, the episode titled ‘Connor’s Wedding’ has drastically changed the trajectory of both the TV series and the fictional Roy family – who are owners of a global media and entertainment conglomerate Waystar RoyCo.
As newspaper made up of decent people, the newsroom of The Betoota Advocate have actively decided against sharing plot spoilers on our widely-circulated national broadsheet.
Instead, we have decided to publish audience reactions the episode. Specifically, that of prominent Betoota-based radical leftie Melody Morcrumbs (35).
As a full blown socialist, Melody is committed to an immovable political ideology that is based entirely around eating the rich – or at least taxing them out of existence.
However, after four seasons of Succession she hates herself for subconsciously humanizing the unloved and dim-witted offspring of a cruel media billionaire.
“I’m disgusted with myself” says the reluctantly employed social worker.
“I think I even heard myself say ‘awww’ during the group hug scene. I don’t know what’s come over me. I want those kids to suffer for what they’ve done to our planet and Western democracy”
“These people should be in guillotines, but here I am feeling sorry for them having to confront real life situations”
