The new coach of the Blues has kicked this week’s Origin Camp off with a bang, the Betoota Rat can confirm.

Coming off the back of a few very underwhelming years for the Blues, incoming boss Michael ‘Madge’ Maguire has decided to mix things up to stop the bleeding.

Taking the boys up to the frosty Blue Mountains in Penrith’s hinterland for their pre-series camp, Maguire has opted for a novel way to fire the team up.

Striving to get the blood boiling and the aggression pulsing through their veins Madge has taken the team down to the Blaxland Tavern for a bit of a chemistry session.

Unlike the Joey Johns era chemistry sessions, the new level of professionalism in the game means the boys went down to the Blue Mountains pub with a specified window of time.

“Yeah, Madge gave them 30 minutes,” said the Betoota Rat, who has been trailing the Origin camp.

“10 minutes to get a couple of rum and cokes into them, and then new debutant Lomax was ordered to throw a pool ball at a couple of tradesman drinking in the corner.”

“That then obviously set off a chain events that couldn’t be stopped until the licensee threatened to call the cops.”

What ensued was an all in brawl, involving all players apart from Nicho Hynes and Liam Martin who are currently nursing injuries ahead of Game One.

Reports from the brawl with the locals suggest Matt Burton made an atonement for getting flogged by Tino and Gagai, and Dylan Edwards proved to the boys that he deserves the Number 1 jersey for the state.

Rookie Lomax has been told to use his Origin pay check to sort out the damages.

More to come.
