One of Betoota’s most pleasant cul-de-sacs has crowned a new King this morning, as a quiet father ushered in the delivery of a brand new in-ground swimming pool.

At approximately 8am this morning, The Advocate understands residents of Lockyer Crescent in Betoota Heights awoke to a surprise, thanks to the rumbling of a semi-trailer and a crane hauling in a 10 metre swimming pool.

Standing proudly on the front porch of his 4-bedroom, double garage home, local furniture and electrical baron Adam Mayne was spotted waving to the driver, signalling him to begin backing the pool into his stone paved driveway and start the installation process.

A generally reserved member of the community, The Advocate understands the new pool has been funded by a recent boom in business, thanks to Adam’s co-ownership of several Harvey Norman franchises in the Diamantina region.

Speaking to Adam’s next door neighbour, Mark Curtis, it’s believed the arrival of the pool has been met with jealousy from the rest of the fathers in the neighbourhood.

“Jeez the family funds must be pretty healthy for the Mayne family if he’s installing a pool and spa combo!”

“He was polite enough to do a little letter drop last week telling us all he would be closing down the road for the delivery, and I reckon that note he left under our door mat was certainly a smug little power play.”

Asked if he was looking forward to having another pool in the neighbourhood, Mark admitted that he would certainly be trying to strengthen his friendship with the Mayne family before summer.

“Me and my wife Julie will 100% be inviting Adam over for a few Friday night fire pit sessions at my place, especially during winter while he’s sorting his pool paving out.”

“As long as our families are best friends by November and we can jump into that pool when he heads to Noosa for holidays, it’ll be a win for the whole street!”

More to come.
