After another tough few days around the nation, there’s some positive news to round out the week.

While the majority of Australians are stuck in lockdown, it’s been revealed that pop star Britney Spears will be released from her 13-year lockdown.

This follows Britney’s father’s decision to step down as the conservator of her 60 million dollar estate.

He hasn’t confirmed exactly when this will happen, but it’s believed to be soon.

If, like 99% of people, you didn’t spend years at university studying law, a conservatorship is the appointment of a guardian or a protector by a judge to manage the financial affairs and/or daily life of another person due to old age or physical or mental limitations

In the case of Britney Spears, it had been alleged that her father Jamie had been controlling all of her finances and movements since 2008.

The conservatorship had been the centre of the long-running campaign to #FreeBritney over the last couple of years, with fans horrified by the treatment of Spears.

That movement came some years after pioneer Chris Crocker and his peroxide blonde salad implored the world to ‘leave Britney alone.’

Thankfully now, for a generation of rapidly aging Australians, an icon of their youth is set to be let out of lockdown and is free to live her life.

“Finally, some good news,” sighed one Sydney man who’s been lockdown for 6 weeks or so now.

“Hopefully she enjoys a trip to the pub or something.”
