Police in Sydney’s airport corridor are on the hunt for suspects today after 42 000 rapid antigen tests were stolen last night from a warehouse in Mascot.

In particular, police are asking the driver of a black 1968 Dodge Charger to come forward to help detectives with their inquiries into the matter.

The state’s Premier Dom Perrotett, Police Minister David Elliot, and Deputy Commissioner Mal Lanyon spoke briefly, but with the candidness of being tieless, to the media about the stolen tests and their efforts in finding who took them.

“A dark two-door muscle car, I believe it’s a Dodge Charger, was seen in Mascot traveling at great speed in the hours after the tests were discovered to have been stolen,” said the Premier.

Mr Elliot nodded then pensively shook his head.

“Police are looking for the driver of that car. He looks a bit like David Elliot except if he was 20 years younger and played AFL on a semi-professional basis. Or rugby league. What I’m trying to say is that he’s bald but not as old as David but with big muscles,”

“Anyway, that car was seen, along with other cars of Asian appearance, in the vicinity of Mascot in the early hours of the morning. Police would like to speak to the drivers and any other witnesses that may have seen something.”

David Elliot then took his opportunity to speak.

“When police find whoever did this, they will be shot on sight,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner Lanyon spat his Fanta out on the ground.

“There will be no trial, no lawyers, no nothing. Just you being dragged out of your car and…”

Mr Perrottet interrupted his Minister to say that would not be happening.

“Police just want to speak to the drivers, there will be no extrajudicial shootings. Even though these RAT tests belonged to the government, it’s not a victimless crime. The government is a person, it is me and you. It is all of us.”

Mr Elliot said that was bullshit and left without adding anything further.

More to come.
