A surgeon at the prestigious Betoota Grove Private Hospital is today making headlines around town.

Gordon Whitely-Whittington-Jones (62) has shocked the medical fraternity and wider community this week by recommending that a patient pursue a conservative treatment plan.

One of the high fliers in the medical profession in South-Western Queensland, the Orthopaedic Surgeon has spent over 40 years building up a strong reputation around the state and the town.

After performing well over 20,000 surgeries in his years as a medical professional, Whitely-Whittington-Jones has officially chalked up a career first.

“Yeah, he told me that we should hold off on surgery for now and maybe consider a strong physiotherapy and rehabilitation plan,” said the shocked patient who we have chosen to keep anonymous under doctor patient confidentiality.

The patient said he went into see Dr WWJ with a minor niggle in his knee that scans have indicated could be a slight tear of the meniscus.

Even a slight tear like that would normally be ripe reason to get the anaesthetist out and star cutting, snipping, screwing, sewing, and most importantly – billing!

However, in a shocking move DR WWJ decided against just rushing the privately insured patient straight in.

“I don’t know what came over me,” said the surgeon.

“I just watched a few grand disappear in front of my eyes.”

“But something was telling me to tell this young man the truth – that it might be more beneficial for him to try and manage this injury without an invasive and disruptive surgical procedure.”

“And if it doesn’t sort itself out we can revisit it down the track.”

“Weird, I won’t let it happen again.”

More to come.
