The Federal Government has looked to social media companies this week to help get Australians ‘out and about’ now that the coronavirus restrictions have begun to ease.

In particular, Instagram has heeded the call and have started to trial messaging that encourages their users to put the phone down and go for a walk or something when one of their users sees every post from the last few days.

Dave Greene, from the social media company’s Brisbane office, said they were just doing their bit for society.

“We’ve included new messaging like ‘Put your phone down, you pathetic fuck’ and ‘Go for a jog, you sad piece of shit’ to try to help Aussies make the most of the loosening coronavirus restrictions,” he said.

“The Australian Government asked us to help and short of paying tax, we thought this could be the least we could do!”

The Advocate reached out the Government for comment but have yet to receive a reply.

More to come.
