Coles has backflipped on their policy to hand out reusable shopping bags indefinitely this morning.
The news comes after the backlash the supermarket giant received for not banning single-use plastic bags in the first place was outweighed by the backlash received from Australians not ready to make the change to reusable shopping bags.
However, that second wave of backlash has now been overpowered by a fresh backlash from the group of people responsible for the initial, single-use outrage.
“It’s pretty confusing, I know,” conceded Coles CEO John Durkan this morning during a press conference.
“So we’ve backflipped on our policy to hand them our for free indefinitely and have now set a date for that to end – which is the 29th of this month,”
“However, when that day comes around, we expect another wave of backlash that will force us to flip-flop on the issue once again and start handing them out for free. That’s about as far into the future we want to plan right now,”
“But yeah, fuck me, right? Who wants an $8 rotisserie chicken? They come in single-use bags and you don’t hear fucking boo about them, do you? Anyway, it’s been real guys, I’m gunna go and sit in my Land Rover and scream for the next 45 minutes. Peace.”
The Coles reusable bag hand out is now on at participating stores around Betoota.
