A local acquaintance who grew up in Canberra has today pointed out that they actually know a random sportsperson from the particular sport you are talking about.

The athlete, who must be a recent NBA recruit or a tennis player, or a non-team-sport playing Olympian, was apparently good company and pretty good at other sports – before ultimately being forced into the AIS by their incredibly pushy parents.

The Canberra friend, Bel Connen (25) also points out that she knows a few rugby league players but you wouldn’t know them because unless they are actually from Queanbeyan or have been suspended from the NRL and had to play bush league for a little while, they aren’t yet eligible for Origin.

Bel has also pointed out that she’s got heaps of weirdo friends that were the offspring of overseas diplomats and recently relocated public servants.

But that’s not nearly as fun to talk about then the low-ranking world tennis player/NBA star who was the son of an American college player that moved here to played NBL. Because she was once in a group project with in year 11 science, and they were cool.

“They were really good at video games too” she says.

“Same with the Peking Duk guys. I know them too”
