A local young fella is now on the verge of becoming a big fella.

That's according to a subtle and subconscious change to the family's weekly grocery run.

Upon turning 11 last month, Tane Duncan (Betoota Heights) is now eating like a growing lad. His parents, who have only ever had to contend with picky eating daughter before him, have never seen anything like this.

"The kid is a bottomless pit" says his old man, Cliff.

Cliff says without even seeming to put on any extra weight, Tane has single-handedly blown out the household budget by 150 bucks a week.

"He's not far of me when it comes to portions. He's outlapping his mum and sisters every night of the week"

"I've got a full spread of meat on the webber and there are no left overs. He's a conveyor belt for snags and rissoles"

Tane's mother, Julie, says she first clocked her son's increased capacity for putting away grub after making the unwise decision to take him to the local Sushi Train before taking him to see the new Spiderman movie last week.

"It was like he possessed. He was unstoppable" she said.

"The pile of plates kept stacking up. There was no amount of chicken and rice that was going to satisify"

As Julie explains, she had to duck to get better reception so she could transfer some funds from the ING account.

"I never saw this kid sending me broke on a trip to the movies"

The family says that conversations are taking place about how to best help this young fella expend his newfound surplus of carbs and protein.

Cliff says there are concerns that any drastic efforts to burn energy could end up backfiring.

"The great fear is if we put him into swim club or boxing, the appetite might increase" he says.

"That's a $1000 dollar problem"
