With Brisbane buzzing this morning, Queensland’s Premier can reveal that preparation for hosting the 2032 Olympics has already begun.

With the river city beating no one to the right to host the Summer Olympics in a decade’s time, Annastacia Palaszczuk has made a significant venue announcement.

“It is with great excitement that I can reveal our Irukandji will be taking home gold at the famous South Bank Beach,” said the Premier from Tokyo this morning.

South Bank Beach, known locally by big wave surfers and parents of out of town young kids looking for something to do in the city is a man-made structure in the South Bank Parklands on the banks of the Brisbane river.

“The surfing competition will be held under the shadows of Brisbane’s skyline in what will be a must-see event.”

“Surf’s up on South Bank,” she laughed.

The news comes as the surfing event prepares to make its debut at the Olympics, with organisers outlining a 16 day period during which the competition can take place, depending upon surf conditions.

“And before anyone starts talking shit about the quality of the waves at South Bank, let’s just wait and see what happens at Shidashita Beach over the next couple of weeks,” said the Premier today.

“If worst comes to worst we’ll get a bunch of kids to run around in circles and create a bit of a wave pool.”

“Exciting times for Brissy.”

“It’s gonna be gnarly”

More to come.
