In the age of social media marketing some small businesses are stripping their strategies right back to some good old fashioned deception.
When local Betoota woman, Angela Kase saw an envelope poking out of her letter box yesterday she had high hopes for something whimsical.
“No one receives letters anymore, so I don’t know I thought maybe someone saw me and thought I was good looking and decided to write it down in letter form,” Angela explained to the Advocate.
“I KNOW it sounds SO stupid,” she added.
But to Angela’s surprise the mysterious blank envelope didn’t reveal a potential secret admirer but a magnet from Mr Betoota Plumber.
The local plumbing business, owned by 32 year old Dennis Tap, had been using the magnet strategy for over 2 years now.
“Your sink won’t stop running, you look around your kitchen stressed out your mind and then you see a cartoon version of myself on a magnet holding a wrench in one hand and a thumbs up on the other,” Dennis explained.
“Pretty genius if you ask me,” he told our reporter as he inserted more low quality magnets into envelopes.
Unfortunately for Dennis, Angela already had a myriad of magnets holding up her photos from her recent Japan trip.
“I thought one or two were fine at first but I’ve got about 6 up now it’s kinda wrecking the aesthetic of the kitchen,” she said.
“Look I don’t think it’s a bad way of getting customers I just got my hopes up, no one sends me actual genuine letters anymore.”
