A number of social justice and left-wing political organisations are claiming responsibility for Perth band ‘Eskimo Joe’ changing their name to “Inuit Joe.”

The West Australians were attacked earlier this year via social media for having a politically incorrect name.”Eskimo” is commonly used in Alaska to refer to all Inuit and Yupik people of the world, this name is considered derogatory in many other places because it was given by non-Inuit people and was said to mean “eater of raw meat.”

Speaking to The Advocate earlier today, a government-supported activist revealed that they began the campaign against the rockers because there’s too much injustice in the world for it to exist in the Australian music scene.

“Whenever I hear the word ‘Eskimo’,” said Penny Tration, 32.

“I vomit a bit in my mouth. It’s so insensitive and intolerant. Don’t get me wrong, I love their music, but you can’t mix music with hate and racism. I’m glad they changed their name, now we just have to stop Clive Palmer from drinking palm oil on camera and we should be done for this year.”

More to come.
