One of Betoota's great connoisseurs of counter meals has today provided his wife with a hot tip that she'd be wise to never forget.
While running errands on the other side of town, Betoota Heights man feels the need to share the local knowledge he picked up visiting this part of the world 17-years ago.
Kal Wylie (34) wasn't long out of school when he joined a few mates from his colts footy side for a day of pre-drinking before the 2009 picnic races.
That's how he knows the lay of the land in Betoota's Flight Path District.
Unfortunately, his wife of five years, Sarah, has made the mistake of mentioning that she's never visited this suburb before.
"Yeah it's not bad." says Kal.
"It's a lot cheaper to live here than where we are. But it's got a good vibe"
While on their way to inspect a Marketplace furniture listing, Kal points to a discreet corner pub that they are about to drive past.
"That pub does a great feed" he says, in reference to a steak sandwich he ordered after seven pom pom flavoured Vodka cruisers at the height of Kevin Rudd's first term at Prime Minister.
The Elephant and Cricket Bat, a 100-year-old pub that is popular with horse trainers and racegoers, has had five different owners since Kal sat down to eat a meal that he has not forgotten nearly two decades later.
"They had this like, relish, or something. Like the onions were part of a relish"
"We should check if they're open for lunch. It was so good"
