Report: Not Going On Phone For 30 Minutes During Nail Appointment Is A Form Of Mindfulness

A report into the activities that Gen Z’s will claim as “mindfulness” has found that the 30 minutes of no phone time a woman experiences while getting her nails done does actually slow the mind down.

The report, which was commissioned by the Federal Government to tackle “brain rot,” uncovered that tiny nail salons with only the selection of polishes and a TV playing 2000s RnB music videos to entertain them, actually does create a moment of calm for young people.

Leading psychologist, Dr. Ruth Duthie, found that the physical limitation of not being able to use your hands was the main strength of nail salon mindfulness.

“I mean it’s not hard to explain, these women have wet nail polish on their fingers, they physically cannot use their hands” Dr. Duthie explained.

“For some of these young people, apart from sleep, getting their nails done is the only time a phone isn’t in their hands.”

The results found that even if the person was stressed that the colour on their nails was wildly different from the bottle, they were still focusing on one problem rather than having a million tabs open in their brain.

“They’re focused on the one problem in front of them, they’re present.”

Nail salon owner, Stephanie Mar, wishes that her customers were more present, believing the report didn’t count for the young people who still went on their phones despite wet fingers.

“I have girls using their phones with their elbows” Stephanie told the Advocate.

“One even asked me to take a snapchat for her, I wouldn’t call that mindfulness.”

While mindfulness in nail salons is still up for debate, other activities the report covers include, watching a full uninterrupted episode of a TV show, staring out the window of a bus and eating a meal without watching a YouTube video.
