Authorities are calling for calm in South-West Queensland this week, after hysterical reports of a deeply concerning sighting in the suburban streets of Betoota Heights.
Both Queensland police and community leaders have urged terrified locals to please not jump to conclusions.
"You've been had" said Betoota West Senior Sergeant, Kay McGrath.
"It was a gee up. Someone's gone and dressed up as a calm and relaxed Laurie Daley prior to a game three decider at Suncorp. It's a costume. Not the real thing"
As the senior police officer was quick to explain, it has since been confirmed that a local 11-year-old by the name of Leon Mogg has been knocking on doors dressed as the unassuming fairytale killer of State Of Origin football.
Once a terrifying five-eighth for the NSW Blues in the 1980s and 1990s, Laurie Daley had recently become somewhat of a clown prince of origin coaches.
That was until rallied the troops to crush the hopes and dreams of all Queenslanders on the bitter winter evening of July 8.
Dressed in a casual NSW blues hoodie with the trademark pin-straight fringe, young Leon has reportedly left some elderly neighbours in a state of panic this afternoon.
"He's not the real Laurie Daley." says Seargent McGrath.
"He's not on your doorstep to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat and ruin your lives"
Police say that the youngster has broken no laws and is merely partaking in an ancient Irish tradition known as 'trick or treat'.
"It was a classic stitch up and you've all fallen for it." he says.
If it weren't the amount of resources that have been expended trying to restore public order, I'd be in half a mind to congratulate the young fella. He even had me reaching for my holster"
