Mum Quietly Secures Mother’s Day Gift She Actually Wants

After a lifetime of putting everyone else’s needs ahead of her own, a local mum has taken a proactive approach to Mother’s Day this year by buying her own gift. The incident occurred during a routine stop at Dan Murphy’s, where 52-year-old Deb Aprile made a small but meaningful adjustment to the family shop.

“She just popped it right in the trolley,” confirmed one onlooker.

“It was inspirational.”The item in question - a bottle of Baileys - marks a steep departure from what Deb’s family has historically deemed “her sort of thing”.

For years, that category has included candles, foot scrubs, and - thanks to a single throwaway comment back in 1994 - an alarming volume of koala-themed homewares.

Fed up with receiving what she describes as “technically thoughtful but fundamentally incorrect” gifts, Deb concluded it was time to remove chance from the equation.

“I love my family,” she said.

“But there are only so many times I can convincingly fake gratitude for a Blinky Bill tea towel. Just get me my Irish cream liqueur.”

Sources close to the family say Deb’s reputation as “easy to buy for” has remained largely unchallenged for decades, despite the growing pile of unused gifts in the family garage.

“I think I’ve been very clear, actually,” Deb added.

“They just don’t listen.”

At the time of publication, Deb was understood to be quietly confident that, for the first time in years, at least one of her presents will be exactly right.
